After completing his master’s degree in vehicle engineering, Shangwei worked briefly in Beijing for three months. He joined the EIL to pursue his PhD with a desire for a new life and an interest in fuel cells. On weekends, Shangwei used to hike in cities, forests and by the sea.
Shangwei’s research focuses on the intelligent fault diagnosis of the fuel cell system. Various faults may occur in different components during the operation of automotive fuel cell systems, resulting in a decrease of output performance and lifespan.
The realisation of non-intrusive early fault diagnosis can improve the reliability and durability of the PEMFC system, and can also inform large-scale commercial applications. To fundamentally understand degradation mechanisms, comprehensive studies of PEMFC fault diagnosis based on multi-scale imaging and data-driven techniques will be imperative.
